Established in 1981, the aim of the
Centre for Physical Activity in Ageing (CPAA) is to "Contribute
to the quality of life of individuals through the provision
of specialised physical rehabilitation, health promotion,
scientific research and educational programs".
The CPAA is involved in a variety
of activities and programs. The major work of the CPAA includes:
- EXERCISE
REHABILITATION
A multi-disciplinary program for clients attending the Eastern
Regional Day Hospital, Hampstead Rehabilitation Centre.
Clients participate in a range of specific and goal orientated
exercise rehabilitation programs.
- WORK
RELATED/MOTOR ACCIDENT INJURY
(Compensible Rehabilitation)
Assessment and physical training programs provided to clients
recovering from a work related (eg. through a workers compensation
scheme) or motor vehicle accident injury.
- PHYSICAL
HEALTH ASSESSMENTS
Clients seeking specific information concerning their physical
health may access a range of physical health assessments,
including: height, weight, flexibility, strength, body fat,
blood pressure and fitness level.
- MASSAGE
Therapeutic massage (combination of European, Chinese, and
Swedish soft tissue manipulation techniques), sports massage,
foot reflexology and trigger point therapy is available
to clients of the CPAA. Massage involves direct contact
of "hands on skin". It is a technique of manual
manipulation of the soft tissues of the body.
- TEACHING
AND EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS
The CPAA conducts a Certificate level course for Fitness
Leaders and health professionals (Exercise and the Older
Person) within the structure of the TAFE Regency College:
School of Sport and Recreation Studies. The CPAA also involved
presents numerous lectures, seminars and short courses to
students enrolled in tertiary and other vocational courses.
- CORPORATE FITNESS AND ASSESSMENT
SERVICES
A specialised service encompassing fitness assessment, counselling
and coaching, fitness classes, walking programs, etc. tailored
to meet the needs of the organisation and its workforce.

- RESEARCH
The CPAA is actively involved in research with its major
emphasis being the investigation of various relationships
between physical activity, functional capacity and ageing.
- CONSULTANCY PROJECTS
The CPAA consults to government and private sector organisations
in the provision of information and services relating to
physical activity, exercise rehabilitation and ageing. Please

- SPORT AND FITNESS REHABILITATION
A range of fitness and assessment
programs conducted as a part of an organised pre-season,
post-season or ongoing training regimen for local sporting
